The house is built like a square aligned with the cardinal directions, and there are four natural entry points into the house with no intervening doors. Normal entry into the house is from the east or the south.
Central Courtyard
Either of the entrances leads into the main courtyard and garden, flanked on each side by the North and South Chambers. A beautiful teak tree in the centre of the garden rises up into the sky. Below it, the beautiful sculptured water element offers a constant gurgling lullaby.
On the east is the vegetarian kitchen and the open-air covered dining space. Adjacent to this is an air-conditioned lounge that serves as a dining space or as a lounge in warmer weather.
On the western side is a rectangular open-air amphitheatre which can be used as a multi-purpose space for small performance. A central feature of the courtyard is a charming sculptural water element which resembles a shiva lingam and through which water flows into a small symbolic tank.
North Chambers
The bedroom of the North Chambers has an unobstructed view of cashew groves. The bed comprises a large king mattress set on a raised platform. The study and bathroom are integrated within the bedroom. The bathroom is open to the sky with the shade of a mango tree.
The bedroom opens to the deck area, letting you enjoy the dramatic sunset in the evening. Its separate living room is a perfect place to hang out with friends. The walls are lined with a large installation of codified design punch cards taken from local handlooms.
South Chambers
The bedroom of the South Chambers is a single long room split into two levels — though it is debatable to call it a room, since it has more windows than walls. Lie in bed and watch tiny birds chirping away, the trees swaying to the wind ever so gently.
The lower level has a sleeping area and the upper is a study with a long built-in desk. The room opens itself entirely to the mango orchard. You can sit for hours on the platforms by the window and get engrossed in the book you always wanted to read. Enjoy all the facets this unit offers, from the cold cement floors to the textured brick walls, high ceilings, open-to-the-sky bathtub with the sun streaming in and complete privacy.
Amphitheatre
On the western edge of the central courtyard is the covered amphitheatre, a great space to have a little performance or enjoy a cup of tea looking out onto the lawns and cashew trees. A beautiful series of white cement steps leads up to the roof above the amphitheatre and a rooftop plunge pool.
Rooftop Pool
Steps lead up to the roof above the amphitheatre, where a common plunge pool ties the space together. Enjoy star gazing into dreamy sunset skies from the pool with mild ambient music and birds chirping. Or let us set up a romantic poolside dinner with candlelight and flowers. It's magical.
Indoor Lounge & Dining
The indoor air-conditioned lounge has large plate glass windows that look out onto the mango orchard. Inside, two walls are lined with day beds, perfect for an afternoon snooze or some quiet working or reading. On one side, a counter is filled with jars of local snacks. In the centre is a 6-seater dining table.
It’s a good place to get away from the heat of a summer day or to avoid the bugs that compete with each other in the open-air dining area during the rains.
