The design of Saranyam is deeply rooted in the history and traditional planning principles of Chettinad homes. The Nagarathars, the community that built these magnificent mansions, moved inland from the coast after a tsunami and constructed their homes on a grid at a higher elevation than the street. Veranda
The front veranda is called "mogappu" and evokes a sense of coming home for the owner. The pillars at the entrance are Chettinad pillars made of green granite, a unique choice since black granite is more common. The owner's father would sit on the veranda of her childhood home to greet the family.
